Coach Talk: Coaching as a Profession - Where Are We Now?

Coach Talk creates space for thoughtful, candid conversations about the practice and future of professional coaching.

Coaching has evolved from an emerging practice into an increasingly recognized profession—one shaped by established competencies, ethical frameworks, professional credentials, and communities of practice. At the same time, changes across the higher education workforce have prompted more experienced leaders and subject-matter experts to step into coaching roles.

But professional experience alone does not make someone a coach.

As coaching becomes more visible and widely used, the stakes are rising for coaches, clients, and the organizations that engage them. What distinguishes coaching from consulting, mentoring, advising, or leadership development? What should clients expect from a professional coach? And what responsibilities come with identifying yourself as one?

In this session, experienced coaches Peggy Jablonski, PCC, and Peter Anderson, PCC, will explore what it means to practice with credibility, integrity, and a shared commitment to elevating the profession.
